Introduction

Builders are custom developed grasshopper tools that help in modelling real life structures with ease.

Grasshopper is a great parametric tool for modelling structures that follow certain symmetry, repetition or are uniform. Real life structures are rarely uniform and symmetric and have few repetitive in nature.

Scripting in grasshopper could become quite cumbersome if native components are used to model structures like buildings, warehouses, process structures like pipe racks etc.

Hence, we came up with dedicated c# grasshopper components Builders and modellers, that help us quickly scale up various structural elements like braces, columns, primary beams, secondary beams, slabs, walls and foundations etc.

TM Builders’ pick-up information from a grid layout and help the user model various elements while ‘TM modellers’ model the same elements using native Rhino/ Gh geometrical elements like lines, surfaces etc. Both can be used in combination to model various types of structures. This segment will delve into using builders exclusively along with other native grasshopper components.

Grids

Grids are the heart of the builders’ components functionality. Using properly designed grids one can easily model structures that follow the cartesian coordinate system.

Grids can either be created manually in Rhino and then imported or can be created using certain dedicated components.

TM Column Builder

Helps model 1D elements (lines) representing structural columns.
